Carol Scherman is Global HR Director for Quiksilver. Quiksilver has a unique company culture that has been referred to as a mixture of “salts and suits” - a reference to its authentic mix of people drawn from experiential backgrounds in the surf and extreme sports cultures and broad business experience with those from corporate cultures.
Following the success of a leadership initiative in the Australian business using emotional intelligence, Carol initiated a pilot program within Quiksilver USA that used emotional intelligence as the platform for developing a dynamic leadership culture in the Americas. Her particular focus was to create a common language and competency framework to forge a strong, vibrant leadership team to take the business forward.
In her case study, Carol will explore why Quiksilver saw emotional intelligence as a critical framework for consolidating the unique leadership culture at Quiksilver, and then discuss how the program was designed, implemented and received.
